Where have I been?! Well...you see. What had happened was...
Okay. Okay. Recently, I had the opportunity to become a Life Sciences High School Teacher and...basically, it took over my ENTIRE life....until now.
I missed my blog and being able to write. So I made myself come back despite being overwhelmed as a full-time teacher.
Enough of the small talk! Let's talk about how amazing my twist out turned out.
If you haven't guessed it, I have a head full of 4a/4b kinky curly hair. My hair and I have a love-hate relationship. I love the fullness and thickness of it, but I hate how my hair struggles to maintain a healthy state of moisture. And moving here to Chicago has put my hair on the struggle bus with maintaining any type of moisture.
As of recently, I have been testing and trying out new hair products. My most recent experiment involved Alikay Naturals. While shopping at Target, I saw this product and I knew I needed to try it out. I figured where could I go wrong with trying out these products?! Here's my reasoning: They contain natural ingredients. Good! They are extremely affordable. Great! And they smell like candy! Shut up! No Way! Where could I go wrong with products that smell like Jolly Ranchers?!
CoWash Me Cleansing Conditioner
You will probably see this a lot, but this product smells A-MA-ZING! It truly smells like candy. I love the thickness of this conditioner. With thin conditioners, my hair sucks up the conditioner and will not feel moisturized. This conditioner is the total opposite. My hair sucked up this product. This conditioner did not just sit on top of my hair, like thick conditioners I have used in the past. It actually penetrated the hair follicle. The only thing I did not like was that I had to use more than a quarter size portion, for my hair, due to density. My hair is thick, ya'll! Like Celie from The Color Purple thick.
One thing to keep in mind...this conditioner has no slip. I would strongly recommend that you do not detangle while using this product. I would use this product for weekly washes and to replenish moisture back into your hair.
Lemongrass Leave-in Conditioner
OMG! This has got to my favorite conditioner from Alikay Naturals. I know that I will definitely keep this in my hair cabinet.
Like the rest of the product line, it smells like Jolly Ranchers. By the time you finish this post, you will probably start singing..."Candy girl! You are my world. You look so sweet..." Lol.
Oh....yeah, right...the product. The lemongrass leave-in conditioner comes in a liquid form. I was kinda skeptical of this product when I picked up it from the shelf, but I decided to give it a try. Girl! Let me tell you! This product is not only moisturizing, but it is full of so many amazing ingredients that will make your hair feel extremely soft. When you spray it, the nozzle on the bottle allows the product to cover a pretty good dimension of your hair. I love that you don't have to saturate your hair to get enough product out.
Essential 17 Hair Growth Oil
Wait?! This is my favorite product too! I love this oil! The oils within this bottle satisfy my hair's demands to be satisfied by heavy oils. Oh! This is the only product from the line that does not smell like candy (for those who may like the smell).
Shea Yogurt Hair Moisturizer
Can you have multiple products that you love?! Yes? Good! I love this moisturizer. Due to the porosity of my hair, I have to do the LOC method to retain moisture. When I put this product on top of the leave-in conditioner and oil, it made my hair feel like butter. Like...for real...Smooth and silky. Oh! A little goes a L-O-N-G way. Remember this when you use the product on your hair.
My hair was super defined and shiny before taking my twist down the next morning. I love that my hair didn't take forever to dry. Previous products that I have used required me to saturate my hair with the product, thus taking forever for my hair to dry.
One thing that I can say is...that I will most definitely be buying this product again in the near future. Alikay Naturals reminds me of the time when I was at the beginning stages of being natural. I loved being natural in the beginning stages because I was able to fall in love with my hair and experiment with new hair products. Just an FYI. Y'all might want to go get your products before I buy the last bottle on the shelf at your local Target. Lol.
