A Photo Diary of my Independence Day in Chicago

Hey, Y'all! Happy 4th of July!

What are you doing?! Don't look at the date posted. It's still the 4th of July!  Okay...maybe not. But...Let's "pretend" that it is. *wink wink*

My 4th of July in Chicago was pretty good. A few friends dragged me out of the house to run around the city. No...literally. We were constantly on the go. Our first stop on the itinerary was...31st Beach! It's been years since I have visited the Lake in Chicago. The last time I walked gracefully on the sands of Lake Michigan was during my childhood. I truly enjoyed basking in the sun's rays during this excursion.

Oh! Can you imagine Lake Michigan being this pretty? No shade...but the water made me feel like I was not living in the urban jungle of Chicago, Illinois. For a moment, I allowed myself to daydream about being on the shores of Puerto Rico before opening my eyes to the skyline.

Ever since I have uprooted from North Carolina and transplanted myself into Chicago, I have been blessed to be able to connect with a body of God-loving, Theology-speaking, and Holy Spirit-worshipping individuals. You see...I attend a church that consists of a network of house churches throughout the city of Chicago. We are always connecting and hanging out with one another.

So...if you guessed it, then you are right! Our second destination was to attend a 4th of July cookout at our Pastor's home in West Garfield. We spent hours eating food, dancing, singing songs, and laughing at the boys argue while playing Bags...all while sitting on the stoop.

As the sun began to set, our destination changed once again...

To close out our 4th of July, we had to see the fireworks up close and personal. We ended the night watching the fireworks at a friend's house. I enjoyed my 4th of July this year, but I did miss being able to run around the neighborhood with my friends looking for fireworks.
